Boom Box Post Studio Apprenticeship

Boom Box Post is proud to provide an apprenticeship program for aspiring sound editors, designers, and mixers.  Throughout the course of the program, apprentices will gain valuable industry experience as well as a window into Boom Box Post's internal creative processes.  Each apprenticeship is six months in duration and occurs seasonally starting approximately on January 1st (winter) or July 1st (summer). 

Applicants are required to already live in the Los Angeles area and all interviews must be conducted in-person.

Requirements

  • Availability full time for one of the two apprenticeship terms: January - June or July - December

  • Availability during normal business hours: Monday - Friday 9am - 5:30pm (all days)

  • A college degree, professional certificate, or equivalent on-the-job training in a related field

  • The ability to work independently

  • Proficiency in ProTools

  • Proficiency in Mac OSX

  • Basic understanding of video editing software

  • The ability to carry 30 pounds

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and motor vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Studio errands

  • Light cleaning and maintenance of studio facilities

  • Completion the apprenticeship curriculum

  • Sound editorial, as needed, once related areas of the curriculum have been completed

Program Benefits

  • California minimum wage

  • Apprentices will be allotted one-on-one time with the editors and mixers of Boom Box Post who will aid in their instruction of the following skills: recording techniques, session layout, ProTools shortcuts, sound effects library creation, dialogue editing, foley editing, sound design, sound effects editorial, and re-recording mixing

  • Once the above curriculum has been completed, apprentices will be given one-on-one time with a supervising sound editor to practice their skills in mock client situations and to create pieces for their demo reel

  • Upon completing the curriculum, apprentices will choose an area of focus and will receive additional mentor training and experience on real content dependent on skill level

  • Apprentices will be allowed full access to observe the employees of Boom Box Post on a daily basis

  • Helping with the day-to-day operations of a post-production sound facility will allow apprentices to understand the professional environment into which they will be entering
